Jessica Davis Caldwell, Editor
As the Editor of The Carolinian, I am going to be writing a new weekly column since 2024 is a Presidential Election year and for many college students, it will be their first time voting.
There can be a lot of confusion when it comes to casting a ballot. Over the next few weeks one thing I will focus on is the laws for casting a ballot, whether you are a current South Carolina Resident or if you are joining us from another state.
I will also cover the major issues of contention and go over the tools necessary to be an informed voter by fact-checking the candidates and giving you the tools needed to check it yourself. If you vote based on what you see instead of what the platform is about, there is a risk of putting someone in office that will put America on a path that is not healthy for the nation or its citizens.
Voting is a privilege and a right. Voting is necessary for the success of our country to choose the right candidate so that all future Americans will continue to have the freedom and opportunities that the founders of our nation intended.
Voting is also a responsibility for every American and without voting there can never be forward progress or change. Voting is the way to make those in charge hear what the future of America wants.
I will give you everything needed to be able to confidently cast a ballot for the candidate you feel best suits the United States and walk you through the proper steps so that your vote counts.
If there are specific questions you have on voting or the candidates, please email me at jdc28@email.uscupatate.edu.
