USC Upstate celebrates Valentine’s Day

By: Alexa Robbins

Valentine’s Day is today, and USC Upstate has been preparing to celebrate with several on-campus festivities.

With being over a month into the spring semester, it is safe to say that our students are due for some fun activities to take part in and enjoy some well-deserved downtime.

Over the last week, on-campus organizations have brought us a few fun and festive Valentine’s Day themed events, and a couple have plans for today:

“Kissing” Booth

Today, LASO (Latin American Student Organization) will host a “kissing” booth fundraiser. Anyone can stop by this event to purchase Hershey Kisses.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to be entered into a raffle contest to win a teddy bear. LASO advertised the event as getting these items for your significant other, but whether you keep them for yourself or not is up to you.

The event will take place 12:00pm-1:30pm outside the library's main entrance.

Stuff A Critter

Also today, CAB (Campus Activities Board) will present their annual Stuff A Critter event. Here, attendees will be able to choose from a variety of stuffed animals. Then, they can stuff and customize the stuffed animal themselves for a unique experience.

Stuff A Critter has proven to be a popular event here on campus, with students returning each year it is offered.

“I went last year, and I loved it. I even named the pig I made Peneloporky,” fellow student Kimberly Dovi said with a laugh. Dovi has plans to attend again this year and cannot wait.

This event will be held on the second floor of the Campus Life Center from 11:00am-2:00pm.

Valentine’s Cards and Love Letters

On February 10th, Housing and Residential Life hosted the Valentine’s Card event in the Palmetto Lobby. At the event, attendees were able to write Valentine’s Cards for people and receive helpful study tips to use throughout the current semester.

Housing and Residential Life also hosted the Love Letters event on February 12th in the Magnolia Basement. Attendees of this event enjoyed cookies while creating and writing love letters to their significant other, or they could practice self-love and write the letter to themselves.
