USC Upstate Elects New SGA Executive Council For 2021-2022 Semesters

Polls closed at noon on April 16th to elect a new SGA executive council. Various positions were up for election including President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary.


Aronde’ Stewart was elected as SGA President, he is a Junior Criminal Justice major with a diverse platform that aims to focus on diversity, equity, inclusion, access, support, community involvement, and student well-being. Aronde’s platform also includes bridging the gap between on-campus and commuter students as well as increasing mental health awareness on campus. Aronde’ previously served as Vice President during the 2020-2021 school year.


Running unopposed, Gregory “Greg” J. Castillo was elected Vice President. He previously served as Senator at Large during the 2020-2021 school year. Greg is a Junior who is double majoring in Spanish and Secondary Education. He ran under the Sparty Party 2.0’s platform which, among other things, focuses efforts to create more events, and increase overall attendance for commuters on campus to interact with and maximize their college experience.


Ahmad Cheeks, also running unopposed, is currently a Junior Criminal Justice major. He was elected Treasurer on SGA’s executive council, a position he held during the 2020-2021 school year. Ahmad is part of the Sparty Party 2.0 which elected three candidates to the SGA Executive Council.


Jamie Mejia was elected to serve as SGA Secretary. Jamie is a Junior Political Science major whose platform centers around helping students become more involved in the Upstate community. Jamie also emphasized that USC Upstate is her home away from home and would love the opportunity to help others feel the same way.
